Because of late-changing New Jersey rules regarding coronavirus restrictions, many local groups and organizations have quickly pulled together a wide array of events recognizing Juneteenth across South Jersey.

Here is Front Runner New Jersey’s late-break list of Juneteenth event Friday and Saturday. FRNJ will update this list constantly as we continue to receive information, so please check back often.

Friday, June 19

Time: Noon

Where: Atlantic City

Event: NAACP Atlantic City presents Black Lives Matter Caravan Demonstration by Atlantic City, starting at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. School Complex, 1700 Marmora Avenue.

ADV: Amy Kennedy For Congress. July 7. Don’t Forget to Vote By Mail

Time: Noon

Where: Mount Laurel

Event: Peaceful Protest, Moment of Silence, and Speeches, Rowan College at Burlington County, 900 College Circle, Lot 4. Student-led protest focused on the deaths and George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, David Mcatee “and countless others.”

ADV: Pamela Thomas-Fields for Mayor. Vote by Mail Before or on July 7

Time: 12:15 p.m.

Where: Atlantic City

Event: Atlantic City Mayoral Candidate Pamela Thomas-Fields and U.S. Senate Candidate Lawrence “Larry” Hmm host Juneteenth Luncheon at Fish Heads in Historic Gardner’s Basin, 800 N. Hampshire Avenue.

Time: 1 p.m.

Where: Owens Field, Sewell Street, Glassboro

Event: Black and Brilliant Events Team host inaugural Juneteenth Festival and Candlelight Vigil. Black Business Marketplace, entertainment, speakers, food and family programs will be on hand.

Time: 1 p.m.

Where: Camden

Event: Juneteenth Camden Motorcade Celebration starting at Dare Academy (Dare to Dance), 1656 Kaighn, to Camden Waterfront. Rain site will be Dare Academy. Speeches and presentation will follow motorcade at waterfront and then event with live band at Dare Academy. More information: Juneteenthcamden@gmail.com, or 856-285-4400.

Where: Galloway

Event: Stockton University student chapter NAACP has organized a Juneteenth March for Justice.

Where: Cape May

Event: Harriet Tubman Museum sponsors a Walk for Social Justice at Rotary Park, Lyle Lane between Decatur and Jackson streets.

Time: 7 p.m. (VIRTUAL)

Where: Online

Event: Murphy Writing of Stockton University will host a virtual reading via Zoom featuring Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Yusef Komunyakaa. Komunyakaa is the first African-American male to win the Pulitzer Prize for poetry. RSVPs via Murphy Writing of Stockton University on Facebook are encouraged. Where: Rowan College of South Jersey, Gloucester Campus, 1400 Tanyard Road, Sewell

Event: Gloucester County NAACP inaugural Juneteenth Celebration with the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and Gloucester County Sheriff’s Office. Entertainment, food, speakers and family events.


Time: Noon-7 p.m.

Where: Whitesboro

Event: Cape May County NAACP is sponsoring a Juneteenth Festival in with Middle Township at the Martin Luther King Center in Whitesboro, 207 W. Main St., according to NAACP Vice President Quanette Vasser-McNeal.
