A one-month spring sports season and no post-season tournaments.

That appears to be the best-case scenario put out by the New Jersey Scholastic Athletic Association Thursday as the state’s shelter-in-place order continues as the nation continued to fight the coronavirus. And there are no guarantees that will even take place.

NJSIAA officials released a statement saying while a spring sports season is still possible, there are quickly running out of options with schools and most businesses – including those that support student-athletes – closed.

“The return-to-school date and related public health guidelines will continue to determine the viability of a spring sports season,” the NJSIAA statement said. “As noted, NJSIAA is committed to doing whatever is possible to provide New Jersey’s student-athletes with some type of spring season. We have models in place that allow for competition starting as late as May 25, but given the late start date, tournament play may not be viable.”
