Camden County East NAACP Hosts Events, Scholarship Fundraiser

LAWNSIDE — The Camden County East NAACP will host programs this month dealing with purchasing a home, finding a career after COVID-19, and its scholarship fund.

On Monday (March 8) the Camden County East WIN (Women In NAACP) committee will present “What does it take to own a home?” The virtual program can be captured at: https://zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_MnMJo7ppSrG1_GF4NaQ_sw.

Diane Frank, mortgage loan originator with The Aziz Law Group and real estate attorney, and Sharkeish Taylor, a licensed New Jersey Realtor, will explain the ins and outs of the home-buying process. They will walk participants through the steps of buying a home, the programs that are available to help Camden County and surrounding residents get into homeownership, and why women investing in real estate can empower the future.

The event will cover:

1) Home Loan Pre-Approval: Learn from a local expert, Diane Frank about how much money you will need to purchase a home, different loan types and the importance of buying a home.

2) Home Search: Learn tricks of the trade from an experienced realtor, Sharkeish Taylor. Learn what to look for when securing a real estate agent, what tools to use to find the perfect home, and how to determine the best location during home-searching.

3) From Offer to Close: Get money-saving insight from Aziz Law Group on what needs to happen after your offer gets accepted in this competitive market and what to expect through the process until you close on your new home.

4) Empowering your Financial Future: Conversations will include how more Black women can utilize real estate to better leverage and continue building a big life with financial freedom.

Build Your Resume

On March 16, Camden County East WIN committee will present “Career After COVID-19 | How to Build a Resume that Stands Out” from 7-8:30 p.m. Those interested can find the virtual event HERE.

“During COVID-19, everyone has been challenged to build a new set of skills because of the expectations around working from home,” Charney Robinson-Williams, with Camden County East NAACP said. “From adjusting to new technologies and workspaces, doing more with less, and creating new processes that reflect the reality of working virtually, you’ve done a lot.”

Hawwa Muhammed, CEO of Pink Trumpet, who has nearly a decade of experience creating resumes and LinkedIn profiles, will present to help participants leave a lasting impression.

Scholarship Fundraiser

Throughout the month of March, the chapter will be holding the scholarship fundraiser, Because of Her I Can campaign, honoring trailblazers like Sojourner Truth, Shirley Chisolm, and Vice President Kamala Harris. The artwork provided proud NAACP supporter Shannan Cunniffe of Enough Studios.

Shop from the comfort of your home and support college students. From note pads to water bottles to print art, there is something for every shopper. Funds will go to support the Paul C. Harris Memorial Scholarship.

Conversely, you can also mail a check with “scholarship” in the memo to Camden County East NAACP, PO Box 53, Lawnside, NJ 08045.

Accepting Scholarships Application

Also, the Camden County East NAACP Scholarship Committee is announcing it is accepting applications for the 2021 Paul C. Harris, Sr. Memorial Scholarship. The annual scholarships are given to:

  • Graduating seniors of a Camden County NJ High School
  • Camden County NJ students enrolled in a two-year college or four-year college/university undergraduate program
  • High School or College students who legally reside in Camden County, NJ

    The award may be renewed for up to three years. Both high school and college students must provide an official scholastic transcript and two letters of recommendation prior to the application deadline.

The application deadline is April 30 and anyone can apply at https://ccenaacp.org/scholarships.
