Juneteenth: Find Out Where To Celebrate!

ATLANTIC CITY — South Jersey is celebrating Juneteenth, June 19, with more than a dozen celebrations stretching from Camden to Atlantic City to Cape May County.
New Jersey is also celebrating the day for the first time as a state holiday. Recognized as Emancipation Day and Freedom Day in other locations, Juneteenth is marked the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.
The holiday was first celebrated in Texas, where on that date in 1865, in the aftermath of the Civil War, slaves were declared free under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation.
Front Runner New Jersey has produced one of the most complete lists of Juneteenth events in South Jersey and will be adding to this list up to the holiday. FRNJ will also post numerous stories on local celebrations up to June 19. The first story is posted today by a first-ever event in Atlantic City.
