LAWNSIDE — The Camden County East NAACP this month named their 2021 scholarship recipients, who will attend Brown University, Kean University, Norfolk State University and Rutgers University.

Charney Robinson-Williams, first vice president and scholarship committee co-chair for the Camden County East NAACP said the chapter faced some challenges with restrictions from the coronavirus pandemic.

“We came together and started thinking creatively on ways we could fundraise without our annual brunch and other in-person branch events,,” Robinson-Williams said. “We created an online store, partnered with Rochester’s BBQ restaurant in Lawnside, and reached out to our members both past and present. This allowed us to award four deserving young scholars with the same award amount as last year pre- pandemic.”

The scholarship winners include:

  • $1,200 Paul C. Harris Sr. Memorial Scholarship Recipient – Erica Simmons, Highland High School, who will attend Brown University.
  • $1,000 2021 Camden County East NAACP ScholarshipLauren Green, Paul VI High School, who will attend Kean University.
  • $1,000 2021 Camden County East NAACP Scholarship – Ciara Carver-Scotton, Pennsauken High, who will attend Norfolk State University.
  • $500 2021 Camden County East NAACP Continuing Education ScholarshipNeylan Neal, who attends Rutgers University.
