NAACP NJ Conference Readies for Virtual Convention Sept. 18-19

MOUNT LAUREL — The NAACP New Jersey State Conference will hold its annual convention virtually on Sept. 18-19, featuring keynote speakers, awards, winners from the local ACT-SO competition and more.

Below is a list of events, workshops and sessions:

Saturday, Sept. 18

  • Opening Plenary Session, 8:30 a.m.
  • President’s Address, The States of Civil Rights in New Jersey, Richard T. Smith
  • Criminal Justice presentation
  • Workshop — Housing
  • Workshop — Health
  • Workshop — Black Press
  • Keynote Speaker, N’Kechi Taifa, Esq, “A Case for Reparations”
  • New Jersey State Conference Awards Ceremony, including acknowledgement of ACT-SO winners
  • New Jersey State Conference Election of Officers

Sunday, Sept. 19

  • Interfaith Worship Service, 10 a.m.
  • Environmental and Climate Justice presentation
  • Generational Wealth presentation
  • Armed Forces presentation

“This storied civil rights organization is led by President Richard T. Smith, and is comprised of numerous units throughout the state with dedicated volunteers with a passion for working towards progress,” the state conference said on its website.
