The last games of the season are coming up in the NJSIAA/Rothman Orthopedics Football Championships, and the Kingsway Regional High School Dragons have given fans a great season of games and surprises.

One welcomed surprise was their relentless fight to make it “all the way” to the NJISIAA South, Group 5 Regional Championship Game, where the young team will battle No. 1 seeded Hillsborough Raiders at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, at Rutgers Stadium in Piscataway.

But on the road to this important game, the Dragons had to take care of business at home against a good Clearview Regional High School Pioneers team from Mullica Hill, also in Gloucester County.

Here is where head coach Mark Hendricks focused on the here and now. He and his coaching staff wanted to beat Clearview as a test of readiness for the much-anticipated battle with Hillsborough, a most formidable opponent.

Though Hendricks has been coaching for several years at Kingsway, he and his coaching staff can be proud of all they have accomplished with his young 2021-22 team. But now, the team is poised to fight it out to the last second of the game to win one for their fans, back home in South Jersey.

“Our team is red hot, right now, and I am confident that head coach Mark Hendricks’ team is psyched about its potential to win one for Kingsway students. School staff, parents and the residents of the townships encompassed by Dragon Country,” said Joseph West Reed, a constant figure at practices and every home and away game.

Coach Hendricks and his coaching staff are optimistically looking forward to continuing the momentum the young team exhibited the year.

Carmen Marrero, the parent of a Kingsway player on the junior varsity team, who makes it a point to attend all the games to support the team, summed it up by saying, “I’m excited to be a part of it and I’m grateful to head coach Hendricks, his coaching staff, high school administrators, parents and students, and all who supported our successful season.”

To my Dragon family. The Dragon nation. She said, “Let’s keep it going.”
