EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — The Community FoodBank of New Jersey (CFBNJ), which has one of its headquarters in Egg Harbor Township received a portion of a $700,000 investment this month from Bank of America.

The Community FoodBank shared the award with Fulfill and Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) to address food insecurity in the region. The investment is expected to provide approximately 1.75 million meals.

“Bank of America has been a steadfast partner of CFBNJ for decades, and their commitment has been particularly extraordinary during the COVID-19 pandemic,” Carlos Rodriguez, President and CEO, Community FoodBank of New Jersey, said in a statement.

“They stepped in strong and early. We’re grateful to be a beneficiary of their employee booster initiative — a testament to how deeply Bank of America cares for the health and well-being of community members. The funds will help us continue our work as demand for food assistance remains elevated,” Rodriguez added.

The Community FoodBank of New Jersey, the state’s largest anti-hunger, anti-poverty organization, has been delivering food, help and hope across New Jersey for over 45 years.

Since the start of the pandemic, CFBNJ has provided neighbors in need with food for more than 160 million nutritious meals through child nutrition programs, emergency meal kits, drive-through events, and more. With the $425,000 raised by the booster campaign, CFBNJ can distribute more than 1.2 million meals to individuals and families throughout New Jersey.

In New Jersey, an estimated 762,530 people are facing hunger, according to Feeding America. As the pandemic continues, hunger relief organizations in New Jersey and across the country are facing ongoing challenges such as increased demand for their services and rising food prices.

“As the pandemic continues to impact our New Jersey communities, food banks and hunger relief organizations are experiencing increased demand and higher costs to meet the needs of individuals and families,” Alberto Garofalo, president of Bank of America New Jersey, said.

“Our commitment to help strengthen the communities we live in and serve is unwavering, which is why we are investing in the health, safety and well-being of our teammates while also providing funds to help our longtime nonprofit partners that are tirelessly working to fight food insecurity and ensure each of our neighbors has access to a meal,” he continued.

Earlier this year, Bank of America announced it would make a $100 donation to local hunger relief organizations and food banks for each employee in New Jersey who received a COVID-19 booster shot or vaccine and notified the bank before the end of January. The company made an additional contribution to address the increased need experienced by hunger relief organizations across the country.

Fulfill is committed to alleviating hunger and building food security in Monmouth and Ocean Counties and, ensuring all community members have access to enough nutritious food to maintain an active and healthy life.

Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (TASK) is working to feed families and individuals who are hungry in the Trenton area and offer programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve overall quality of life. Since the beginning of the pandemic, TASK has increased production by about 90 percent, serving 250,000 meals in a span of seven months, a duration where they normally would serve 130,000 meals.
