Gloucester County NAACP’s Heels on the Battlefield Set for May 14

WILLIAMSTOWN — The Gloucester County NAACP has announced the live return of one if its signature events, the women’s empowerment conference Heels on the Battlefield, which will be held at the St. Matthew’s Baptist Church’s Community Development Center, 245 Glassboro Road in Williamstown, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. on May 14.

Melissa Fox, author and one of the leading African-American healthcare executives in South Jersey will speak at the conference along with Yolanda Melville, an Atlantic City attorney and former national president of the NAACP’s Next Generation Alumni Leadership Council.

“The conference is considered an initiative for working professionals and a network for women from all walks of life,” the Gloucester County NAACP said. “The conference has been a life-altering experience for many women and is recognized for its unparalleled capacity to empower and inspire women by giving them the tools  and resources they need to survive in today’s environment.

Other presenters include:

  • Jasmine Winters, coordinator, patient advocate at the Cherry Hill Women’s Center.
  • Cierra Hart, director of housing and economic justice for the New Jersey Coalition to End Domestic Violence
  • Mary Cruz, chief of staff, U.S. Rep. Donald Norcross
  • Dr. Shawnequa Carvalho, assistant superintendent of human relations and chief academic officer, of West Deptford Public School
  • Shamay Phillips, public affairs manager for Planned Parenthood
  • Michelle Hall-Boggan, of the Keep Evolving Wellness Center.

Some of the topics to be covered at the conference include healing, economic empowerment, human trafficking, entrepreneurship, health, education, politics, criminal justice, cannabis legalization and social justice.

“It is also an excellent networking opportunity but more than that, it is a time to share enriching stories of transformation and accomplishments and to give and receive words of encouragement and life lessons,” the Gloucester County NAACP.
