1.What made you become a business owner?

Sarah Fraley: For 29 years I worked in the printing industry with a lot of local printing companies. I also worked as a freelancer during this time. While working with these companies I watched how they cheated the small business owner especially minority owned business.

In 2014 when the Affordable Health Care Act went into effect, I was able to get my own healthcare and that’s when I decided to take my company to the next level and do it full time. When I decided to take on this venture full time, I wanted to help the small minority-owned business have access to great designs and marketing materials at a reasonable price. When you’re starting a business, you need to look good in print without having to spend a lot of money on marketing materials and design.

2. Why did you select your current field?

Sarah Fraley: As a kid I always loved to draw, so when I entered college, I majored in graphics design and minored in computer programing. During this time is when computer graphics was added to the art curriculum at Rutgers University.

3. What do you enjoy the most about being a business owner?

Sarah Fraley: Being my own boss and having the freedom to pick the type of client I want to work with.

4. How important is it for you to have positive Black role models in business?

Sarah Fraley: It’s very important. When I was in college for computer graphics there were only a few people who looked like me in the industry. When I graduated and started applying for jobs all of the printing company that had opening in graphics design didn’t have any people of color in this position, which made it harder for me when interviewing. I really had to prove to them that I was capable of doing the job. I truly believe that the only reason I was called for the interview is because of my name and they thought I was white.

5. Anything else would you like to add?

Sarah Fraley: I believe that it’s important to give back to the community which is why I don’t just design products for my customer, I also try to educate them about printing and marketing.

I also love helping the younger generation with their startup businesses and non-profit organizations.
