ATLANTIC CITY — Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States. Juneteenth commemorates African American freedom and emphasizes education and achievement.
Last year, the United States for the first-time designated Juneteenth as a national holiday. The year before, New Jersey made it a state holiday. South Jersey will begin celebrating with events through the month.
Come out and celebrate one of the truly American holidays, recognizing the perseverance and determination of African Americans and what it really means to be celebrate freedom by attending one or more of these celebrations.
