GoFundMe Appeal: Fundraiser for Atlantic City Focus’s Mark Tyler Nears Goal

ATLANTIC CITY – A fundraising appeal for Atlantic City Focus Publisher Mark Tyler continues after his family home burned down shortly before Christmas.
Tyler, a former reporter for The Press of Atlantic City and founder of the Atlantic City Focus was living in his childhood home with his brother while caring for their 80-year-old mother when it burned down two days before Christmas.
Tyler told Front Runner New Jersey while his mother was able to escape the home without injury, the family lost everything. Krystal Knapp, publisher of the New Jersey Vindicator, started a GoFundMe page for the family. The page can be found here.

“We’re getting by day by day,” Tyler said.
Tyler told Knapp that the fire had “been devastating.”
“Homeowner’s insurance will cover temporary housing at a hotel only through the end of the month. Mark is now searching for an affordable place to live in this incredibly challenging real estate market while the family begins the long process of rebuilding,” said a statement on the GoFundMe page.
Knapp set up the page with the blessing of the New Jersey chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists. Funds raised will go directly to Tyler and his family. Any amount is appreciated.
“Please also help spread the word by sharing this fundraiser via email and on social media. Let’s come together as a journalism community to support one of our own who has worked tirelessly to serve Atlantic City,” the page said.
The Atlantic City Focus “provides a safe space where residents and natives can tell their own stories in their own way. We enlighten, inform, and entertain as we celebrate African American culture, history, and traditions,” according to its website.
