ATLANTIC CITY — Front Runner New Jersey is proud to announce that Erika Heinrich of Marlton, will serve as a journalist for FRNJ through the South Jersey Information Equity Project by Montclair State University’s Center for Cooperative Media.

The South Jersey Information Equity Project was conceived at the Center for Cooperative Media in late 2019 through a partnership with the Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists. Its goal is to address media inequity in South Jersey, specifically by seeking to improve the quality and quantity of news and information produced by and for communities of color.

Heinrich describes herself as a “native photographer and rookie journalist.” Her passion for photography began in high school and evolved to landing her first job at her college, The College of New Jersey, as a campus photographer.

She was awarded an honorary mention from the Evesham Historical Society and has worked with many organizations including the Black Student Union, Educational Testing Service and Girl Scouts America.

While at TCNJ, Heinrich was a featured writer for the Women in Learning and Leadership newsletter, a women-led organization that educates the campus about gender, sexuality and the climate. She hosted many events at TCNJ to promote dating safety and healthy relationship habits.

As well as being the lead yoga teacher for the TCNJ Yoga Club, she used her skills in yoga to work with the Trenton Girl Scouts to teach meditation and the fun in fitness.

Heinrich graduated with a degree in marketing and women, gender and sexuality studies in 2023. She is currently a part-time freelance photographer, and part-time assistant for her family real-estate business, Maria Heinrich Inc. local to Marlton.

As her journey is just beginning in the reporting world, Heinrich wishes to discover the untold stories about Black and Hispanic New Jersey residents with a focus on Burlington County local events and foods.
