Showell, Lawrence Among Gloucester County NAACP Game Changer Awardees

WILLIAMSTOWN – Isaiah Showell, the longtime producer of the “What’s Good in South Jersey” podcast and Marie Lawrence, mayor of Winslow Township, are two of numerous awardees at the Gloucester County NAACP Black & White Freedom Fund Gala and Game Changer Awards, President Loretta Winters announced.
The gala, one of the largest NAACP Gala held annually in South Jersey, will be held at Auletto Caterers in Deptford at 5 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 3.
The Gloucester County NAACP will give its Excellence in Communication Award to Showell, is the producer and host of the online video segments “What’s Good With Isaiah,” which highlights positive stories and people from throughout the region, and new episodes are uploaded weekly.
Showell, a graduated from Rowan University with a bachelor’s degree in journalism in 2015, was named one of the initial 30 Under 40 Top Young African American Leaders of South Jersey in 2022.
Lawrence will receive the Dr. Irene Hill-Smith Civil Rights Award. Appointed in 2022, Lawrence had served on Winslow Township Committee representing Ward 3 since 2004 before becoming mayor. She was deputy mayor from 2009-2022.
Lawrence is a long time resident of Winslow Township and retired after a long career with Atlantic City Electric.
Winters will present her Presidents Award this year to Cheryl Chavis, the Gloucester County NAACP ACT-SO chair, business coaching and consultant Gina Burton, and Nichelle Pace, Vice President Brand Enchanting Media: Camden Business Association.
The NAACP “Power Couple” Awards will go to Bishop Tyrone McCombs, of the Tabernacle of Faith Church of God in Christ and Camden School Superintendent Katrina McCombs; and Nicole and Stephen Thomas, of TNT Transportation.
Other Game Changer Awardees who will be presented at the event include:
*Community Service Award: Jake Jones, Community Advocate
*Crystal Corporate Award: Fawn Martin, executive, First Harvest Credit Union
*Excellence in Education Award: Dr. Janice Wardle, Wilmington University
*Mental Health Excellence Award: Jasmine Winters, Peace Minds Haven nonprofit
*Faith Based Award: Pastor Tyrone Reeves, Straight Line Ministries
*Government Award: Eric DiTonn, Paulsboro Council
*Law & Public Safety Award: Temperance Williamson, Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office
*Medical Service Award: Dr. Jubril Oyeyemi, Cherry Hill Free Clinic
*Next Generation Award (Student): Denzel Wiggins, Clayton
*Veteran & Armed Service Award: Tara Green, Office of Veterans Affair, Gloucester County
