Dine-In: Carangi’s Cafe & Deli Wins With Taste, Hospitality
NORTHFIELD – It was a beautiful fall morning, the chaos of errands now complete, we happened upon Carangi’s Café and Deli, at 1205 Tilton Road in the Center Point Plaza, which turned into a wonderful find.
Upon arrival we peeked inside and found a full house of dining patrons along with owner, Jon Carangi behind the grill. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming. In front of us stood Carangi’s fresh deli case.
We arrived close to 2 p.m. on Saturday and with both outdoor or indoor seating available, our choice was made to embrace the warm sunshine and the outdoor fall decor. A staff member quickly accommodated us, seating us on the veranda in our DINE-IN spot of choice. We never felt rushed even at this later hour.
Our food arrived to the table warm and stayed that way even though we were dining outside. Our meals were cooked to perfection, delicious and satisfying.
We placed our first order, Eggs Benedict. It was prepared with fresh tomatoes and sautéed spinach stacked on top of delicious artisan bread and of course finished with with Carangi’s rich creamy hollandaise. We opted for home fries to compliment the Eggs Benedict. The home fries were cooked to perfection with a crispy coating that proved a great choice.
Our second plate was from the “Build Your Own Omelet” selection. After a bit of contemplating from the list of additions we settled on bacon, broccoli and spinach. When it came to choose another side the choice was close Carangi’s House Pork Roll Fried Rice.
This had us curious and it reminded me of fried rice for breakfast that is a common delicacy in the Deep South. I was excited and pleasantly surprised to find Carangi’s signature pork roll fried rice and its South Jersey influence in a combination of rice, pork roll, egg, onion, and the most pleasing Asian hinted house seasoning.
Yes, I could have ordered a second helping because it was that good.
According to the Atlantic City Weekly, it’s not a surprise that Carangi’s knows what makes the taste buds of locals sing. Jon Carangi, the owner, spent more than 20 years cooking at Romanelli’s on the Greene in Linwood, while his wife Katie Carangi worked at The Anchorage Tavern in Somers Point.
Carangi, along with his partner Adrian Juarez, who worked with him at Romanelli, has created a casual and affordable dining experience that will easily find you wanting to try different dishes to try and figure out which will be your favorite on the menu. See the menu here.
Carangi’s opened their doors in 2021 and have been serving breakfast and lunch to the community ever since. They have accommodating hours being open Tuesday through Saturday 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. They are closed on Monday.
