HAMMONTON – With its bright neon lights the traditional diner décor, the Silver Coin Diner at 20 South White Horse Pike, shines at night, and its food shines with every meal.

We found a spacious and welcoming atmosphere upon entering, which was neat, clean, and busy. Visitors are greeted by a friendly and attentive host and wait staff, along with an impressive peek at the long glass case of cakes, pies and other sweets that will have you ready to indulge in the best part of the Silver Coin experience — the food.

During our visits, the servers were prompt and took our beverage orders right away.  Alcoholic beverages are available upon request.

A cup of soup is included in specific meals or can be ordered separately. Soup was served prior to the entrees arriving. One of the meals we tried was Silver Coin’s turkey sandwich. The open-faced hot turkey sandwich with mashed potatoes and gravy came with a small container of cole slaw and was absolutely perfect.

As a fan of a good open-faced turkey sandwich, Silver Coin’s version was top notch. Most diners have their own take on how they prepare an open-faced turkey sandwich and its always interesting to see how they prepare and interpret this diner classic. The turkey was moist and tender and the mashed potatoes with gravy were delectable.

Also on the menu was a tasty California turkey special sandwich, which consisted of fresh, sliced turkey, bacon, avocado, lettuce, tomato, and mayo on a toasted ciabatta roll. Ciabatta sandwiches over the last 20 years have taken on a life of their own and Silver Coin hit the mark.

Like my entrée, the turkey was moist and tender, the bacon and lettuce were crisp, and the avocado and tomato were amazingly fresh. A side of pickles added the perfect combo of salty and sweet.

All orders arrived hot, the portions sizes are generous, the presentation is neatly prepared and the food is delicious

Silver Coin is known for some of its tantalizing nightly soup and dinner specials. Some are so popular — like the mouth-watering crispy-crust chicken pot pie — that the diner runs out by the end of the night, so be warned and come early.

Depending on the day of the week, you will experience delicious soup choices from creamy tomato, red or white clam chowder, escarole, chicken orzo and more.  We enjoyed the escarole, navy bean with ham, crock of French onion and chicken orzo. They are all very fresh and flavorful.

Some of the daily soup and dinner specials include cream of turkey soup on Monday, Silver Coin’s famous crusted chicken pot pie on Tuesday, and stuffed peppers on Thursday. Owner Chris Tzaferos recommends giving a call for daily specials and dining early before they run out.

Ice cream, pudding or Jello are included with some entrees and surely satisfy the sweet tooth. Silver Coin Diner has a wide array of desserts to choose from. We sampled the regular and pumpkin cheesecakes, and both were delicious. Come on in and indulge in your favorite of the multiple options.

Our lunch total for three came to a very fair $46.13.

The portions at Silver Coin Diner are generous and a doggie bag inevitable.  Overall, the Silver Coin has an extensive menu that will no doubt please your taste buds.

There is ample parking and wheelchair accessibility.

During your visit make sure to say hi to owners Chris and George and inquire about the history behind the name “Silver Coin” Diner. Hint: there’s an Atlantic City casino angle.
