EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — Front Runner New Jersey recognizes Dr. LaShonine Gandy-Smith, deputy director of the Atlantic City International Airport, for Women’s History Month.
Gandy-Smith has served as the airport’s deputy director since August 2023, after working as a program manager with the New Jersey Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services for six years and Millennial Leadership Consultant and Trainer for seven years before that.
She is currently the highest-ranking African American with the South Jersey Transportation Authority, the state agency charged with planning and resource management for transportation projects in the six-county South Jersey area including the Atlantic City Expressway and the Atlantic City International Airport.
“I am proud to stand as a female leader in aviation — a field where every day brings new challenges and opportunities,” Gandy-Smith said in a social media post on March 8 recognizing International Women’s Day.

“In my role as deputy director at Atlantic City International Airport, I recognize the strength, resilience and innovation of women who continue to redefine what’s possible in the skies and on the ground.”
Gandy-Smith earned her bachelor’s degree from Notre Dame University, master’s from Rowan University and doctorate from Argosy University.
“This day reminds us to honor the women who paved the way and support the next generation. Let’s continue to lift each other up, challenge the status quo and soar to new heights together,” she said on International Women’s Day.
Some community leaders and others praised Gandy-Smith for her work.
“Congratulations on your amazing accomplishments, Dr. LaShonine Gandy-Smith. You’re an incredible role model for young women everywhere,” said business owner Chinishau Roller on social media.
Bill Hawkes, president and CEO of WEHA Gospel Radio added his congratulations as well.
“You are definitely representing God, family, and women everywhere,” Hawkes said on Facebook. “Very proud of you.”
