5 Questions
1. FRNJ: What made you become a business owner?
Gloria Estephanii Saldana: I became a business owner because as a single mother of three boys ages 13, 11, and 6 obviously younger than it was hard maintaining a job going to appointments and taking care of my home. I was dedicated to doing these services on the side but knew I was missing out on many opportunities because I didn’t have an office and wasn’t an official business. I had 2 jobs for many years and when presented with the opportunity obtained an office space and worked part time while growing my business until I let go of my other job and focused on my business full time. As a child of an immigrant myself I provided many of these services for my family growing up. I decided to make a business out of something I was passionate about and I LOVE what I do. I love serving my community and helping people with the many struggles they encounter as I myself received many benefits from the resources I had at my disposition. I worked for 2 non profit organizations and learned a lot over the years that could benefit a lot of people.
2. FRNJ: Why did you select your current field?
Gloria Estephanii Saldana: I love helping people and being an immigrant and not speaking English prevents many people from obtaining services that are available to everyone. Aside from this I am able to help people become citizens and petition their family members to come from different countries. Solve their immigration problems here in the country and so much more.
3. FRNJ: What do you enjoy the most about being a business owner?
Gloria Estephanii Saldana: What I enjoy the most about being a business owner is my schedule flexibility, being able to spend more time with my sons and travel the world both work related and for vacations. I also enjoy not having to clock in or out or worrying about getting fired if I have to call out or even getting performance evaluations in order to get $0.50 cents raise. Working for a system that would replace you in a heartbeat without thinking about it. I lost my job at the nonprofit because they lost their fundings and I struggled for months and almost lost my home. Even though maintaining a business is no easy task I am very proud of how far I have come there were many struggles and failed attempts which is why my business name is Perseverance Multi Service-because I persevered.
4. FRNJ: How important is it for you to have positive Latino role models in business?
Gloria Estephanii Saldana: It is very important for me to have positive Latino role models in my business because my business is focused on the Latino community.
5. FRNJ: Anything else you would like to add?
Gloria Estephanii Saldana: I was born and raised in Camden and am looking forward to someday having a nonprofit to continue to help and provide services for my community.
