WILLIAMSTOWN – Logan Township Mayor Frank Minor, who heads the South Jersey Political Black Caucus, and Fatima Heyward, the newly elected national president of the Young Democrats of America, will speak at the Third Statewide Meeting for the Black Agenda at St. Matthew’s Baptist Church on Saturday, Aug. 30.

The event, which starts at noon at 245 Glassboro Road, U.S. Route 322, is a continuation of two statewide meetings that were held in Newark and Long Branch earlier this summer after Newark Mayor Ras Baraka finished second in the New Jersey Democratic Primary Gubernatorial race in June.

Baraka is slated to appear at the event with Minor and Heyward. Others scheduled to take part in the event include U.S. Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman and U.S. Rep. LaMonica McIver. Watson Coleman and McIver along with Baraka made national headlines when they were prevented from inspecting an immigration detention center in Newark earlier this summer.

Rev. Charles Boyer, founder of the influential nonprofit Salvation and Social Justice, will attend the meeting along with John Harmon, Sr., founder of the African American Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey; and noted South Jersey civil rights attorney Tim Alexander, along with St. Matthew’s Deacon Sherman Hopkiss, Sr.

“Now more than ever, our voices must be clear, unified, and strong,” Minor told Front Runner New Jersey.com. “Bringing this Statewide Meeting for the Black Agenda to South Jersey is a crucial step in building unity across the state. For everyone troubled by Trump’s aggression.

“What it means for our rights and communities, this is our opportunity to organize and strategize. This conversation can’t stop; we have to keep the pressure on and continue the work. Join us on Aug. 30 as we chart a path forward.”
