ATLANTIC CITY – U.S. HART Cares RX5 Cyber Guardian will kick off its second cohort of its cybersecurity workforce training program with an event at its headquarters at 3317 Atlantic Avenue on Thursday, Oct. 2.

Last year, U.S. HART Cares, a nonprofit organization based in Atlantic City, announced receiving a $1 million grant for cyber security training. HART is an acronym for Humanitarian Aid Response Team.

“While we’ll continue working with the Jewish Family Services of Atlantic County to provide our inaugural RX5 Cyber Guardians a couple of more learning modules to prepare them for electricians’ apprenticeships, our second Cohort will provide ‘pure’ RX5 Cybersecurity Workforce Training,” said Jimmy Whitehead, chairman of U.S. Hart Cares.

“After this program, these RX5 Cyber Guardians will be prepared for rewarding careers in hospitality, health care, banking, or many other industry jobs in demand for cybersecurity trained employees.”

The nonprofit’s president Horace Jones said they are excited about the second cohort and it continues to build up a local workforce prepared for cybersecurity.

“Unlike our first Cyber Crime Reduction Program Workforce Training that primarily focused on low voltage electrical workforce training, our second cohort will provide a deep dive into defense RX5 Cybersecurity Workforce Training.”

U.S. HART Cares said last year that cybersecurity experts are considered as “the new plumbers, welders, and electricians of the 21st century as an emerging field that will affect every portion of life as society becomes more intwine with digital sources.

Whitehead, a U.S. Navy veteran, has long focused on cybersecurity to keep the country safe from digital terrorism and disaster preparedness. He has also talked about how the field can be an economic boon for locations like Atlantic City.

He worked in the senior executive service in the White House from 1988 to 1993.
