BRIDGETON – Mayor Albert Kelly and Cumberland County Superior Court Judge Demetrica Todd-Ruiz will be two of the history-making honorees celebrated at the Bridgeton Urban Enterprise Zone Merchant Meeting Black History Month recognition, which has been rescheduled for March 12 because of the weather.

The meeting will take place from 6-8 p.m. at 14-16 East Commerce Street in Bridgeton and is free to attend.

Kelly, the first African-American mayor of Bridgeton who has served the city since 2010, and Todd-Ruiz, the first Black Superior Court judge in the county, will be four recipients. Kelly will receive the Historic Achievement Award and Todd-Ruiz the Trailblazer of Justice Award.

Edwards & Son Funeral Home, led by community advocate Richard Todd Edwards, will receive the Community Excellence Award and Cumberland County Prosecutor Jennifer Webb-McRae will receive the Pioneer of Justice Award.

Bridgeton City Councilwoman Marian King and Jerry Young, of the prominent youth nonprofit Tri-City HOPE, will be the keynote speakers. Bridgeton UEZ coordinator Stephanie Gonzalez said the honors are being held in partnership with KYMO (Keeping Young Minds Occupied), H.E.A.R.T., & Games On The Go.

Gonzalez said the meeting to engage business owners on how to leverage UEZ programs and resources, connect with local lenders and mentor the next generation of entrepreneurs.

Attendees will get a guided tour of the new Safe Space, home of KYMO, Games On The Go and H.E.A.R.T. Organization.

“I am proud to invite our business owners, entrepreneurs, and community leaders to join us for a powerful evening of connection, celebration, and opportunity,” Gonzalez said in a recent Facebook post. “This is more than a meeting — it’s about collaboration, opportunity, and strengthening our business community.”
