PLEASANTVILLE – Five-year Pleasantville councilwoman Joanne Famularo has recently left the elected position to take a position with the Atlantic County Board of Taxation, she told Front Runner New Jersey.com.
Famularo was a well-known Atlantic County politician serving a city that is 53% Latino and 30% African American. She also served on the city’s school board for six years, part of that as vice president.
“I also served on the planning board in the city of Pleasantville both as a private citizen and as an elected official,” she said.
In last November’s District 2 New Jersey Assembly race, Famularo finished third behind incumbent Republican Don Guardian and Democratic newcomer Maureen Rowan, but ahead of incumbent Claire Swift by 77 votes.
She was on her second term in Pleasantville City Council when she threw her hat in the ring for the New Jersey Assembly. Famularo was recognized by the Pleasantville City Council earlier this month during Women’s History Month for her contributions to the city.
According to the Atlantic County Democratic Committee, Famularo owned two successful small businesses in Pleasantville, Deli du Jour and Mainland Monuments. She also owned 3 Wise Women LLC, a property management company.
She actively participates in organizations such as the Mainland-Pleasantville NAACP and the Pleasantville AARP, underscoring her commitment to fostering inclusivity and advocating for the well-being of all residents.
