HADDONFIELD – Preserving Black Haddonfield History Project will host two Juneteenth-related events over two Saturdays, organizers said.

The project’s America250 Celebrations in Color Initiative covers events on June 13 and June 20. The project will host a Pre-Juneteenth Walking Tour at The Point starting at noon. The walking tour will start at Centennial Field at Lincoln Avenue and Park Place.

On Saturday, June 20, the project will host a special screening of “What Would Martin Say?” at at Sparrow’s Outdoor Theater, 10 Mechanic Street, at 4 p.m. The project will give its DEI Community Leadership Prize.

“As you may know, this is a town that predates the American Revolution,” said C. Adrienne Rhodes, the founding president of The Preserving Black Haddonfield History Project.

“The Preserving Black Haddonfield History Project’s programs are unique in their recognition of the influence of African Americans in the formative years of the new democracy in North America and the role as well as the lasting impact of free Blacks here dating back to the mid-1840s.”

The project said that since its founding, its core team has been a volunteer operation driven by passion.

“While making history here, we have been fostering meaningful connections,” Rhodes said in a statement.

“In addition to local academic, civic and philanthropic partners from Haddonfield Foundation and Rotary Club, Haddonfield Memorial High School and the Historic Preservation Commission, and Plays & Players, Independence Public Media Foundation/People’s Media Fund, Lions International (Haddonfield Chapter), New Jersey Department of State/Historical Commission’s Black Heritage Trail and others support our work.”

She said the project encourages intergenerational and interracial participation in such community events and the public is welcomed to attend.
