SALEM – Respected local Minister Wadiya K. Davenport was awarded on the Pedersen-Campbell Award from Stand Up For Salem annual fundraising dinner on Oct. 14 at the Salem County FOP Old Oak Lodge 6.

Davenport received the award, according to Facebook, for her “leadership, dedication, and service to the Salem County community.”

Stand Up For Salem is a nonprofit community development organization that was founded in 1988 by local residents to help revitalize the city’s downtown and neighborhoods. Its mission is to stimulate local business opportunities, champion historic preservation, and promote positive community growth in Salem City.

“A heartfelt thank you to Stand Up for Salem for this special recognition and to everyone who attended, extended congratulations, shared kind words, and continues to show love and support throughout the years,” Davenport said in a statement on social media.

“No one makes a difference in a community alone. It takes people coming together, supporting one another, and sharing a common vision for a brighter future. We are truly appreciative of every relationship, partnership, and helping hand along the way.”

Davenport serves as a Community Ambassador, where she uses her diverse background to connect with people from all walks of life. She brings practical solutions to community needs and is driven by a passion to see Salem flourish socially, spiritually, and sustainably.

A U.S. Air Force veteran with a strong foundation in logistics, she has also worked as an educator, sous-chef, and now serves as Director of Food and Nutrition at St. Johns Pentecostal Outreach Church.

The Pedersen-Campbell Group Award went to the Forman Acton Foundation while Robert Sutton received the Unsung Hero Award.

Local businessman Angelo Harold praised Davenport on her award.

“This recognition is truly well-deserved,” Harold said on Facebook. “Your dedication, compassion, leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving others have not gone unnoticed. You have continued to be a blessing to so many people, making a difference in our community through your faith, your actions, and your heart for service.

Last night was a reminder that when you continue to walk in your purpose, serve with a genuine heart, and remain faithful to the assignment God has placed on your life, HE will make sure your labor is not in vain.”

Stand Up for Salem also recognized sponsor Mannington Mills as its Presenting Sponsor, for “helping make this special evening possible. Their continued support allows Stand Up For Salem to bring people together, recognize community leadership, and continue working toward a stronger Salem.”
