CAPE MAY — The co-chairs of the Cape May County Indivisible announced last week they are supporting Cape May County NAACP President Quanette Vasser-McNeal’s candidacy for a seat on the Middle Township Committee

The progressive grassroots organization said Vasser-McNeal’s roots in the area run deep and she has long given to the community, making her a solid candidate.

“Quanette is a longtime resident of Middle Township who was born and raised in West Cape May,” the group said in a statement. “Alongside her husband, they have raised a blended family of biological and adopted children in Whitesboro for over 20 years. She earned a degree in social work from Stockton University and now works as an active realtor and business owner of an established hair salon.

“She currently volunteers her time as an executive board member for Habitat for Humanity, Vice President of the Middle Township Democratic Club, advisor on the Middle Township Law Enforcement Engagement Committee, member of the Cape May County Prosecutors Office’s Social Justice Committee and executive member of the Cape May County NAACP,” the statement continued.

Last year, McNeal took over the presidency of the Cape May County NAACP and served as an officer before that time.

“As Quanette stated in her recent candidacy announcement, she is ‘a candidate for all the people, with an added passion to bring understanding and voice to the concerns of women, minorities, and individuals who feel their voices, ideas and needs have gone unmet and unheard.’ There are currently no women or people of color serving on the committee,” Cape May County Indivisible said.

“Quanette intends to focus on serving all residents of the township while also building greater economic opportunity, protecting resident safety and promoting community pride,” the group continued.

Cape May County Indivisible is a local progressive, grassroots group that organizes for social, racial, reproductive, economic, and environmental justice. It aims to cultivate a local progressive community that feels supportive and inclusive as well as participates in actions of direct community aid together.
