Sen. Cory Booker Endorses Tim Alexander for Congress

ATLANTIC CITY — Democratic Congressional candidate Tim Alexander received an endorsement boost this week with the announced support by former presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J.
Booker, who solidly won Atlantic, Cumberland and Gloucester counties in his 2020 re-election, which makes up a sizable chunk of District 2, could be a boon for Alexander in his first-time political bid as he tries to unseat Republican incumbent Jeff Van Drew.
“As a civil rights attorney and accomplished public servant, Tim Alexander has dedicated his life to bringing about real, meaningful change that improves people’s lives and strengthens entire communities,” Booker said in a released statement.

“That’s why I am proud to endorse Tim Alexander for Congress. At a time when our fundamental rights as Americans are under attack, we need leaders like Tim on the frontlines in Congress, who will fight tirelessly to defend our values and stand up for New Jerseyans who feel left out and left without a voice.”
District 2 is notoriously purple, voting twice for Barack Obama in his presidential runs while siding with Donald Trump over the last two election cycles. Van Drew actually won the seat as a Democrat in 2018 before switching parties in 2020.
“I am truly humbled to be endorsed by one of our great senators,” Alexander said in a statement. “Senator Booker truly exemplifies the idea of a servant leader. He is not afraid to lead from the frontlines and fight for justice and defend our rights.
“Even so, Senator Booker has never forgotten that he is in office to serve the people of New Jersey. I truly admire the way he has served as an elected official through the years and hope to emulate it after we win this November.”
Alexander and Van Drew will debate at Stockton University Atlantic City on Oct. 19.
