Housing and Community Development Network of NJ Names Edward Bethea Board Vice Chair

BRIDGETONEdward Bethea, the executive vice president and chief operating officer at Gateway Community Action Partnership, and Bridgeton City Council president, was recently elected vice chair of the Housing and Community Development Network of New Jersey’s board of directors.

Bethea has been a member of Bridgeton City Council since 2018. Bethea oversees all financial, managerial and revenue-generating departments and activities within Gateway CAP. He is the chief negotiator of all contracts and leases and serves as chief developer on all construction projects.

The Housing and Community Development Network is a statewide association of more than 250 non-profit housing and community development corporations, individuals, professional organizations and prominent New Jersey corporations that support the creation of housing choices and economic opportunities for low- and moderate-income community residents.

Bethea brings years of experience in tax consulting, financial planning, cash flow projection and asset management to Gateway, and maintains approval authority on all agency spending. Bethea is also directly responsible for the interactions between Gateway and financial institutions and governmental entities.

Bethea holds a bachelor’s in accounting from Rutgers University and is currently serving as a member of the Inspira Foundation board of directors, Cumberland County Empowerment Zone, and the Cumberland County Utilities Authority, according to his Gateway CAP biography.

He is a past president of Bridgeton Main Street Association and the Bridgeton Board of Education, a past member of the South Jersey Economic Development District, and the Cumberland County Planning Board.

Bethea is also the former treasurer of the NAACP Greater Vineland Chapter and lifetime member, as well as, a member of organizations including Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. – Upsilon Alpha Graduate Chapter of Atlantic City and Beta Iota Iota Graduate Chapter of Cumberland County, the National Association of Black Accountants, and Union Baptist Temple, in Bridgeton.
