“All three of them just wanted to serve the Lord. Their love for worship and wanting to use their gifts and talents for God in a way that He would be glorified most. With a heavy heart for today’s children and all youth around the world and the concern of the constant flood of negative knowledge and messages flowing through the social media outlets.”

5 Questions
1. FRNJ: What made you become a business owner?
Renee T. DeShields Bishop: I was working three jobs when my sickle cell changed my life. I then was diagnosed with degenerative bone disease among other sicknesses. I was out of work for three months and then fired because I could not come back to work in a “reasonable time.” So I went to the prayer closet and told God, “Lord I completely will trust the process.” After that prayer and after fasting, God in all His infinite wisdom allowed me to open not one but several powerful businesses.
2. Why did you select your current field?
Renee T. DeShields Bishop: All of my businesses speak about my life. There, all I love and adore. I then decided to share those things with the world so that they could experience the joy it brings me.
3. FRNJ: What do you enjoy the most about being a business owner?
Renee T. DeShields Bishop: I enjoy the leisure time I get to spend with my family and with my church. My husband (Bartholomew Bishop) is grateful that I take time to have an actual conversation with him without rushing off to the next job.
4. FRNJ: How important is it for you to have positive Black role models in business?
Renee T. DeShields Bishop: It is extremely important to me. I need our children to have a legacy when I leave this earth and they shouldn’t have that role model in their parents but they should be able to have strong mentors to teach them what they need to learn from. Those role models should be able to be nurtured in their own gifts in dreams.
5. FRNJ: Anything else would you like to add?
Renee T. DeShields Bishop: If I could give a word of advice to others who want to start their own business it would be this — Trust God’s process. You may not understand it but He never fails us!
