ATLANTIC CITY – Former Atlantic City School Board president and member Patricia Bailey became the city’s newest city council member on Wednesday night (Oct. 23) after she was unanimously selected to fill the post of Bruce Weekes.
Bailey was sworn in after receiving an 8-0 vote for the seat to fill Weekes’ remaining term. Bailey was the first of three names put forward submitted by the Atlantic City Democratic Committee. The other names were not voted on since Bailey received a unanimous vote.
Bailey received a hug from Mayor Marty Small Sr. and other members of council after she was sworn in and immediately took her seat next to Fifth Ward Council Member Muhammad Huq, who was appointed at the September meeting until a special election on Nov. 5 against Republican Maria Lacca.
Weekes resigned his at-large seat in September to take a job, according to The Press of Atlantic City, with the city government.
Bailey resigned from the Atlantic City Board of Education in July. According to her linked in page, she has been a member of the board for more than 10 years.
