VINELAND — Front Runner New Jersey recognizes Luz Vasquez, the Cumberland County deputy business administrator and community advocate, during Women’s History Month.

One of the highest-ranking Latinas in Cumberland County government, Vasquez was the first Hispanic ever appointed to her current position when she was chosen by the county’s board of commissioners almost three years ago.

Thank you for joining us in our coverage of Women’s History Month and those of color who helped shape the legacy.

As part of the county’s executive team, Vasquez oversees more than 900 employees and multiple county departments throughout Cumberland County. She is dedicated to her work and improving the lives of the great citizens of the county.

Vasquez can be regularly seen throughout Cumberland County supporting and promoting nonprofit and grassroot events both big and small, coming from a background as a former nonprofit leader herself. She currently sits on the Cumberland County Habitat for Humanity board of directors.

“My passion for supporting our community through events and initiatives comes from my Faith. Love thy neighbor as thyself,” Vasquez told Front Runner New Jersey.

A life-long resident of Vineland, Vasquez is a mother of four adult children and has been a shining example of what it means to give back to your community. A personal tragedy struck Vasquez and her family in 2022 when she lost her son Chad Stuart, to gun violence.

Through the tremendous loss, Vasquez persevered and continued her commitment to supporting communities and faith organizations.

Vasquez has worked to understand the issues that plague local communities and has worked collaboratively with other community leaders to effectively make positive changes.

Vásquez obtained her bachelor’s in liberal studies and master’s in human services from Lincoln University, an HBCU in Pennsylvania. She understands the value of education in helping overcome barriers to success.

Vásquez credits her success to her Faith in God, a great support system and formal education. She has been a member of True North Church for nine years.
