Hispanic Heritage Month: Sen. Nilsa Cruz-Perez to Appear at Power of Latinas Conference on Oct. 10

MONTCLAIRSenate Majority Leader Teresa Ruiz and Camden-area Sen. Nilsa Cruz-Perez will take part in the LUPE Fund Inc.’s second annual Power of Latinas Conference: Your Rights, Your Voice, Your Future at Montclair State University from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Oct. 10.

The event, which will take place at the University Conference Center, will feature panel discussions, Latine-owned brands and vendors, share valuable resource tools and networking. There will also be an awards and scholarship presentation.

Others invited include Assemblywoman Rosaura “Rosy” Bagolie, and New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Acting Commissioner Jacquelyn A. Suarez.

A native of Newark, Ruiz became the first Latina to serve as NJ State Senate Majority Leader in 2022 when she succeeded the retiring Loretta Weinberg. He has served in the Senate since 2008.

Cruz-Perez, who was born in Puerto Rico, became the first Latina to serve in the New Jersey General Assembly in 1995 when she was appointed to fill an unexpired term and then won the following election. The military veteran became a NJ State Senator in 2014.
