City of Vineland to Celebrate Discovery of Puerto Rico

VINELAND – The City of Vineland and executives of the nonprofit Dream Builders NJ, will celebrate the Puerto Rican community on Wednesday, Nov. 19, during the anniversary of the discovery of the Caribbean island in 1493.
The free event will take place at the Vineland Fire headquarters, at 415 Plum Street at 6 p.m. The celebration is being co-hosted by Dream Builders founder and CEO Nadia Albizu and its educational director Dr. Wanda Albizu.

The event will celebrate “contributions of Vineland’s Puerto Rican community, which has been integral part of the city’s cultural, economic, and civic life for generations.
The City of Vineland Facebook announcement said that there will be presentations about Puerto Rican history and culture, fun activities for all ages, opportunities to share and learn more about the island’s vibrant traditions.
Juan Ramos, El Trio Los Originales, Aileen Seda, Raices Boricua, Luis Figueroa, will provide entertainment while young artist Elijah Robles Lopez will be painting during the event.’
“Attendees are also invited to help our neighbors in Jamaica affected by Hurricane Melissa with donations of over-the-counter medicines or canned food,” the city’s announcement said. “All contributions will go directly to relief efforts for those impacted by the hurricane.
Dream Builders NJ is an organization dedicated to empowering communities in New Jersey through education, language learning, technology and business skills, according to its Facebook page.
