Find an Event to Celebrate MLK Day in South Jersey

There will be Martin Luther King Jr. Days of Service and other activities recognizing the slain civil rights leader throughout South Jersey and around the country on Monday, Jan. 19. Below are a few more events you may want to consider during Monday’s celebrations.

*NAACP Camden County East Chapter is hosting its fourth annual Beyond the Dream Series with a free lunch at Oaklyn Baptist Church, 29 E. Bettlewood Avenue, in Oaklyn from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the theme Focus: The Siblings of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

*The Atlantic City NAACP will host its annual MLK Walk from 10 a.m. The walk will assemble at Martin Luther King School Complex, 1700 MLK Boulevard, at 10:30 a.m. to the Lt. Gov. Sheila Oliver Courtyard in front of the City Hall of Atlantic City with a program at St. James AME Church, 101 New York Avenue, starting at noon. The NAACP will also conduct its annual membership radiothon on WEHA-FM from 3-5 p.m. Organizers ask those interested to call in 609-641-8870.

*In Bridgeton, the organization Epic Elevation will hold its annual MLK Remembrance and CommUNITY Meal at Hope Loft, 40 East Commerce Street, from noon-4 p.m. Epic Elevation will also introduce its DREAM Initiative Youth Mentorship Program.

*Students and supporters at Rowan University in Glassboro and Stockton University in Galloway will take part in days of service with projects around their communities. Consult the websites of each institution for more information.
