OP-ED: Cumberland County Creatives Can Find Support They Need — In Cumberland County

One thing that has become increasingly clear to me is that Cumberland County already has many of the pieces needed to build a thriving music industry right here at home.

We have talented artists, producers, engineers, videographers, photographers, DJs, promoters, media outlets, entrepreneurs, venues, and supporters who genuinely care about the culture.

The opportunity isn’t somewhere else — it’s in our own backyard.

Too often, local creatives overlook the value of the resources that already exist around them while searching for opportunities outside the area. There’s nothing wrong with expanding your reach, but there’s also tremendous value in tapping into the network that’s already here and helping strengthen it.

Imagine what could happen if more artists booked local photographers for their press shoots, partnered with local media outlets for interviews, worked with local producers and engineers, collaborated with fellow musicians, and performed at events designed to showcase homegrown talent.

Every collaboration creates momentum, and every investment into our own community helps build an ecosystem that benefits everyone.

There are already people laying the foundation. There are platforms creating opportunities, businesses willing to sponsor events, creatives producing quality work, and organizations committed to highlighting local talent.

The challenge isn’t that we lack resources — it’s making sure those resources are recognized, utilized, and supported.

Cumberland County has the potential to become a destination for independent music and creativity. The talent is here. The infrastructure is growing. Now is the time to continue building on what we already have and prove that success doesn’t always require looking elsewhere first.
