Willingboro Council Names Samantha Whitfield as Mayor

WILLINGBORO – Samantha Whitfield, the former president of the Willingboro and Vicinity NAACP, was chosen mayor of Willingboro at its reorganization meeting last week with Dr. Tiffani Worthy selected as deputy mayor.
Whitfield, Worthy, and outgoing Willingboro Mayor Kaya McIntosh, ran as a team to win office on the borough council in 2019, beating out incumbents in a heated race, but won re-election handily in 2023.
For Whitfield, this is her first go-around as mayor of Willingboro after serving as deputy mayor under McIntosh. Worthy served as Willingboro mayor during her first term.

A longtime resident of Willingboro’s Buckingham Park neighborhood, Whitfield was educated in the Willingboro public school system. She completed her associate’s degree at Burlington County College, now Rowan College at Burlington County, and her bachelor’s at Rutgers University.
Whitfield worked 0\for The Girl Scouts of Central & Southern NJ as a leadership development specialist. In 2011 she transitioned to the pharmaceutical industry, pursuing a career in clinical trial management at BioClinica, Inc.
In addition to advancing her career Samantha maintained her commitment to service and began volunteering for Black Girls Run!, a nationwide organization that encourages and inspires African-American women to live a healthy lifestyle. Her dedication to the movement led to her appointment as an ambassador of the local South Jersey chapter.
In 2017 she became the youngest branch president to the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People in the state of NJ in addition to pursuing a master’s in city planning. She graduated in May 2019 from the University of Pennsylvania City & Regional Planning Program with a concentration in community and economic development.
