Loving Our Cities to Continue MLK Project on Jan. 25

SEWELL — The nonprofit Loving Our Cities said the second portion of the Sit In to Stand Up 2025 will take place on Saturday, Jan. 25 at The Perfecting Church and neighboring sites, as a community service and reflection project honoring Martin Luther King Jr.

The nonprofit canceled the first part of the project was canceled on Monday, Jan. 20 because of the weather.

“We hope that you will still SIT IN, honoring this day in reflection, conversation, and a renewed commitment to community service, reconciliation, and transformation as the path forward to “where we go from here,” Loving Our Cities said in a statement.

“Then, STAND UP with us on Saturday, January 25th Loving Our Cities at one of the community service projects offered at Perfecting Plaza or neighboring partner sites,” Loving our Cities said.

The starting point will be at The Perfecting Plaza, 274 Delsea Drive in Sewell.

Loving Our Cities is a community development corporation with a mission to enhance the quality of life locally through civic engagement, community programming, education, and workforce development.

Since its founding in 2014, Loving Our Cities has sought to impact societal change by addressing systemic barriers compromising the quality of life in our region.

Conceived as the community engagement arm of The Perfecting Church, Loving Our Cities emerged as members and neighbors of The Perfecting Church answered the call to love your neighbors, identifying needs and meeting them, to foster reconciliation and transformation in distressed communities locally and abroad.

Loving Our Cities offers a variety of direct programs and services including a 9,000 square-foot warehouse serving as a Food HUB and base of operations for our five food pantries serving Burlington, Camden, Cumberland, Gloucester and Salem Counties; marriage, family, individual and financial counseling; support groups for those recovering from trauma or struggling with mental illness; and mentoring and job readiness training such as Millennial Labs, a workforce development initiative.

Pastor Kevin Brown leads The Perfecting Church and Angela Brown is the executive director of Loving Our Cities.
