DEPTFORD TOWNSHIP – Rev. Kevin Brown, pastor of The Perfecting Church, and Steven Serrano, Washington Township school board member and Atlantic City Electric executive, are movers of the new class of the Lead Gloucester County program, known as Lead GC.
The comprehensive certificate course, facilitated by Claire Riggs, of Riggs Creative Group, aims to develop a pool of well-informed, skilled and resourceful individuals, positioned to serve as business and community leaders in Gloucester County.
The course is put on by the United Way of Gloucester County, the County of Gloucester, and Rowan College of South Jersey. The first session was held on Sept. 5.

“This comprehensive certificate course aims to develop a pool of well-informed, skilled and resourceful individuals, positioned to serve as business and community leaders in Gloucester County,” the program said in a statement.
Brown is the longtime pastor of The Perfecting Church in Sewell and the co-founder of the nonprofit Loving Our Cities. Earlier this month Serrano was named to the Class of 2025 of FRNJ’s 30 Under 40 Top Latino Leaders of South Jersey.

Other members of the leadership class includes Dorann Brown of Atlantic City Electric, Samantha Burns of Acenda Integrated Health, Malcolm Davis of TD Bank, Alexis DeAnne of TD Bank, Casey Haddox of GTB Partners, Marcie Hahn of The Arc Gloucester, Chelsea Lippincott of the County of Gloucester, Wendi Miller of RCSJ, Mackenna Smith of Inspira Health Foundation, and Carmelle St Fleur of TD Bank.
The program is coordinated by UWGC Executive Director Michael Gower, and facilitated by Riggs, a United Way board member, RCSJ Associate Vice President Candice Racite.
It is sponsored by RCSJ, Atlantic City Electric, and Acenda Integrated Health, with additional program support received from Columbia Bank.
“LEAD GC is here to educate, empower, and engage the next generation of leaders — helping them grow their careers while driving progress and prosperity in Gloucester County,” said Michael Gower, Executive Director of United Way of Gloucester County.

“As many local businesses, corporations, and nonprofits face succession challenges, this program is building a pipeline of well-prepared, empathetic leaders ready to step up. Through hands-on leadership experiences and an inside look at the issues and opportunities shaping our county, LEAD GC goes beyond traditional training to prepare participants for the roles of tomorrow,” Gower added.
Leadership Gloucester County (Lead GC) is a collaboration of the United Way of Gloucester County, Rowan College of South Jersey and the County of Gloucester. LEAD GC spans nine months, with sessions held from September to May on the first Friday of each month.
Each class consists of diverse participants dedicated to learning, engaging and growing as individuals and as a collective. In addition to broadening their leadership skills and knowledge of the county where they work and/or reside, upon completion, each participant will receive a Nonprofit Governance Board certificate to prepare them to serve on local nonprofits in volunteer leadership capacities.
