13 Camden Scholarship Winners Named By Women of the Dream

CAMDEN – The nonprofit Women of the Dream announced its 13 scholarship winners and virtual scholarship and award program on June 13.
The June event will highlight the achievements of the current scholarship winners and previous winners.
Women of the Dream’s scholarship is open to all college-bound senior girls in the city of Camden. This year’s top five scholarship winners are Abigail Rivera-Mercado, Shanyce Smith, Yasiria Lugo, Ciania Walker, and Lanasia Robinson. These young women attend both public and nonpublic high schools in Camden. Overall there are 13 scholarship winners this year representing various high schools across the city. Camden Mayor Frank Moran and Camden School Superintendent Katrina McCombs are scheduled to give inspiring messages at the event.

Leslie Morris, founder and chief executive officer of Women of the Dream, said past scholarship winners have gone on to thrive in college.

“Over the past three years, WOD has awarded scholarships to 13 bright but financially-challenged young women in the city of Camden, totaling $34,500,” Morris said in a statement. “Two have already graduated from college, and the others are thriving on college campuses in New Jersey and across the nation. Let’s continue to support college-bound girls in these underserved areas.”

The scholarship winners come from six different Camden-area schools, including Creative Arts Morgan Village Academy (5), Charles Brimm Medical Arts High School (4), Big Picture Learning Academy, Mastery High School of Camden, Urban Promise High School and Woodrow Wilson High School.
