Shoes for Your Soul Hosts Community Giveaway on June 12

CAMDEN — The South Jersey nonprofit Shoes for Your Soul will host a Community Giveaway Day at Cornelius Martin Park, 562 North 10th Street, in Camden on Saturday, June 12 , from 11 a.m-3 p.m.
Shoes for Your Soul, based in Merchantville, is offering families and children free lunch and dessert sponsored by Camden County Police Department Camden City, free information from local businesses and more.
All children in need from infancy to 12th grade will receive a pair of shoes and socks in the Camden County area. Shoes for Your Soul is preparing for approximately 200 families to attend the inaugural Community Giveaway Day.
Volunteers will set up 28 long white tables displaying around 800 pairs of shoes. More than 20 vendors will be in attendance, including Amerigroup, Pennco Technical Institute, and CAMcare. Families will receive free information about area summer programs, information for the 2021-2022 school year and health and education information.
In addition, the children may participate in activities such as basketball games and Hula Hoop contests. El-Beth El Cathedral Church in Palmyra will be donating the basketballs as each child wins a basketball game, and Dijas Doll House Collection located at the Moorestown Mall and Miss Selena Matthews will be contributing to the Hula Hoop distribution.
Shoes for Your Soul will honor and recognize four students from Rutgers University-Camden School of Business for their online Amazon shoe drive that was created for “Shoes for Your Soul” to raise shoes and socks for children in need as a class project!
Shoes for Your Soul provides new and gently used shoes and new socks for children from infancy to 12th Grade. Since their start on January 21, 2019, they have provided over 2,000 pairs of shoes to children in need of shoes in Camden County and surrounding areas.
In addition, Shoes for Your Soul has participated in many local community events since August 30, 2020, giving shoes to various shelters and shipping shoes to the Dominican Republic and Ghana.
At each event, Founder & CEO Dawn Lewis and volunteers properly size each child to ensure that they are wearing the correct size shoe. Then, the shoes are displayed on tables by sizes from 0-14, with the children given footwear options and new socks.
Providing properly fitted shoes gives children a feeling of comfort and support that helps them achieve their dreams, whether in class, on the field, or at leisure, and makes a difference in confidence and ability for youth; that’s often overlooked.
