Atlantic City NAACP names scholarship winners

Six Atlantic City High School Students were honored with scholarships from the Atlantic City Branch of the NAACP.
The scholarships were announced at the branch’s Freedom Fund breakfast at the Hard Rock Casino and Hotel in April. The winners were announced by education chair, Ciera Logan, Esq., an associate attorney at Fox Rothschild in Atlantic City.
The scholarship winners include:
*Christian Cabrera: Cabrerra is involved with ACHS’s New Jersey ROTC where he is responsible for the success of a company of over 80 cadets. Cabrera served head fundraiser for the student council. Cabrerra was also engaged with the Atlantic City Beach Clean-Up and Sister Jean’s Kitchen. He will continue my education at either Rutgers or Stockton University.
*Maila Foy: Foy participated in swimming, crew, and track and field. Foy was the secretary for the Class of 2019 and actively involved in the World Languages and World Cultures club. Foy will attend Barry University in Miami.
*Tahirah Howard: Howard participated in Atlantic City Vikings girls basketball team and engaged in community service with the team. She was a volunteer in multiple clubs such as Hope 4 AC and The Blood Drive. Howard plans to attend Howard University in Washington, D.C.
*Nadira Martin: Martin participated on the school’s crew team for three years and various clubs such as Literature club, Leo club, Hope for AC, Pottery Club, Miss American Parade, and the Red Cross Club. Martin will major in computer science at Morgan State University in Baltimore.
*N’ayiana Tolbert: Tolbert has a 3.80 grade point average and inducted into the National Honor Society as a junior. Tolbert is a member of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Iota Chapter Xinos, a sorority for teenage girls. Tolbert attends Second Baptist Church and is a member of the Praise Dance Team. After graduation. She will attend Rowan University and major in elementary education.
*Linh Tran: Tran volunteered with the Leo Club and acted as the club’s 2018-2019 treasurer. Tran participated in the Atlantic City Marathon Series, holiday gift-wrapping, and the annual Thanksgiving feast with the Salvation Army. Tran committed to San Diego State University with an anticipated major in economics. Trans plans to attend University of California, Berkeley’s Law School after college.
