GALLOWAY – Rev. James Dunkins and Carole D. Seabrook Green were among the awardees Nov. 8 at the Council of Black Faculty and Staff of Stockton University’s 38th annual scholarship award dinner at the Carriage House.

Dunkins, a 1981 Stockton graduate, received the Distinguished Stockton Alumni Award. Green, director of family and youth programs at Bridgeton’s Gateway Community Action Partnership, was given the council’s Lifetime Achievement Award.

The council was created to foster communication among the Stockton community and state concerning the voice and position of minority personnel and students at the university. Patricia W. Collins, the community engagement liaison and adjunct instructor, is the current president.

Dunkins is pastor at Shiloh Baptist Church in Port Norris and Vineland. He earned a degree in social work from Stockton and worked at the Bridgeton Public Schools where he retired as Human Resources Director.

He currently serves as president of the Bethany Baptist School of Ordination and general secretary for the General Baptist State Convention of New Jersey.

Green had worked for Kintock Group, the Cumberland County Guidance Center and the N.J. Juvenile Justice Commission before her stint with Gateway CAP. She has served on the Bridgeton Board of Education and the Cumberland County College Board of Trustees.

She currently serves on the Federal Correctional Institution Community Relations Board in Fairton.

The council also honored:

*Lisa Honaker, Stockton’s Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, with a Lifetime Achievement Award

*Craig Stambaugh, Stockton’s Assistant Vice President of Engagement and Community Development, with a Merit Award

*Stockton Bursar Tom Roth, with a Distinguished Alumni Award

*Sankofa, a Stockton organization of minority males, received the Outstanding Stockton University Student Initiative Award, which was accepted by advisor Pedro Santana, assistant vice president Division Administration and Strategic Initiatives.

Several students connected with Sankofa talked about the impact the program has had on their lives.  

Collins said more than $331,000 has been award in scholarships to 263 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral students, including $16,000 for the 2019-20 academic year.

Trang Tran, a senior biochemistry and molecular biology major who wants to attend medical school said she was grateful for the support.

“It warms my heart,” Tran said. “Students can feel hopeless if they can’t afford college.”

Stockton President Harvey Kesselman welcomed those attending the program. Tina V sang the national anthem Cameron Williams provided the music for the even as deejay.
