Atlantic City Supports Micah Tennant-Dunmore At Funeral

ATLANTIC CITY – Mayor Marty Small Sr. said Saturday that a city park will be refurbished and named after 10-year-old Micah “Dew” Tennant-Dunmore, who died Nov. 20, days after he was shot during a high school playoff game in Pleasantville.

The memorial, announced by Small during remarks he gave at the child’s funeral at Shiloh Baptist Church Saturday, was one of several thing done to remember the boy, known for his bright smile, personality a budding skills as a deejay.

“This really hit home, and for these children to endure this is just so unfair,” Small said the large gathering at the church. The attendance spilled onto the streets on Atlantic Avenue and filled an overflow room to standing room capacity. “We got to stop this senseless violence because it is accomplishing nothing, but it’s killing people who we know and love.”

Small told the audience that the park in the 800 block of Maryland Avenue, near where Micah grew up, will be a place where the community can feel safe coming together.

“We’re going to make that playground a place Dew could be proud of,” Small said. “We’re going to make it a true community place.”

Small said that a historical marker will also be place outside of a daycare center on Virginia Avenue in honor of Micah as well.

“We got to come together in times like this,” Small said. “I was getting dressed to go to a Holy Spirit game, and just to show you how this effects children, my son was out the door and he told me, ‘Dad, I don’t want to go to another high school football game.'”

Small then asked for people to applaud the youth involved in the Little League football programs Atlantic City Dolphins and Pleasantville Greyhounds. Micah was a member of the Dolphins at the time of his death.

Atlantic County Freeholder Ernest Coursey also spoke at the funeral and acknowledgements were read from U.S. Senator and presidential candidate Cory Booker, Rev. Al Sharpton’s National Action Network and locally from the Pleasantville Police Department and Pleasantville Mayor Jesse Tweedle.

Superintendent Thomas C. Michael did the eulogy. There was also a heavy police presence at the funeral, with more than 10 officers stationed in front of Shiloh Baptist Church and the turning lane in front of the church blocked by squad vehicles.

Wyatt Remains in Jail

While the emotion funereal carried on Alvin Wyatt, 31, remained in the Atlantic County Jail on murder charges. Wyatt is accused of opening fire in the stands of a crowded football stadium during the NJSIAA Central Group 2 playoff game between Camden and Pleasantville after allegedly spotting local rival Ibn Abdullah on Nov. 15.

Wyatt’s bullets hit not only Abdullah by Tennant and another bystander, 15. Michael Mack, 27, and Tyrell Dorn, 28, were also arrested for allegedly helping Wyatt flee the scene before they were all caught by police shortly afterwards in Atlantic City.

The shooting made national news, inspiring people around the country to send condolences to the family. The Philadelphia Eagles opened up its home, Lincoln Financial Field, to allow Camden and Pleasantville to finish their playoff game.

Micah’s Obituary

Micah’s obituary as it appeared at the funeral read: Micah Samuel Tennant-Dunmore “Dew,” 10, of Atlantic City, N.J. passed away on Nov. 20, 2019 at Cooper University Medical Center, Camden. Micah was born Sept. 9, 2009, in Galloway, N.J. to Angela Tennant and Samuel Dunmore Jr.

He attended Uptown Complex Elementary School. During Micah’s brief years on Earth, he enjoyed hanging out with his Mom and siblings; and playing football for the Atlantic City Dolphins. As a toddler, Micah spent many hours  watching his Uncle Anthony practicing deejaying. Micah’s bright smile and huge personality made it easy for anyone to fall in love with him. He was an extraordinary kid who will be greatly missed.

Micah’s precious memories will be remembered and cherished by his parents; stepfather Broderick Loftin, siblings Malachi and Machiah Tennant, Jayvon, Jahsier and Jasminah Dunmore; maternal grandparents Carolyn Tennant and Anthony McQueen Sr.; paternal grandparents Felicia Wilson and Samuel Dunmore Sr.; great-grandparents Helen “MomMom” Tennant, who Micah loved dearly; Peggy Clayton and Willa Dunmore; special aunt and godmother Monica Tennant; uncles Anthony McQueen Jr., Angelo Tennant Jr., Lamar Pitts, Michael McQueen and Asmar Coley; aunts Amelia and Erica Tennant, LaShay Gibbs, Shakeema Wilson and Samantha Dunmore, great aunt Peggy McQueen, great uncles Angelo Tennant, John McQueen; special cousins Anthony III, Cashmir, Julianna, and Asiana McQueen, Jasmirah Davis, Aziz Coley, Lariah and Laquan Patterson; and a host of great-great aunts, uncles, cousin, family and friends.
