MOUNT LAUREL — Earlier this month, the National Football League Alumni Association announced that it will team up with Fulcrum Performance Lab, a full-service health, and human performance organization, owned by Chuck Morris, to begin a series of studies to determine the mental stress that NFLA members are experiencing due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the current social climate.

Phase 1 of the study, named the Fulcrum Stress Study, will use the data collected to highlight health concerns that have been related to chronic stress. The goal of the study is to better equip members with ways to manage their stress and help improve their long-term health.

Binah.ai, the leading provider of general health and wellness video-based monitoring tools powered by artificial intelligence, is partnering with Fulcrum Performance Lab and NFLA on this study to supply the technology that will extract mental stress and vitals from a person’s face, with medical-grade accuracy, using only the video camera of virtually any mobile device, including smartphones and tablets.

“The information that the Fulcrum Stress Study will capture and track is arguably some of the most important data in measuring individual wellness, but historically difficult to capture effectively and consistently,” Dr. Chuck Morris, CEO, and Founder of Fulcrum Performance Lab, said in a statement.

“The thought of capturing these data points across states, time zones, and demographics used to appear impossible, but today, we have the technology to make it happen,” Morris added.

Binah.ai’s technology extracts vitals including heart rate, respiration rate, heart rate variability, oxygen saturation, and stress levels. The technology works on any skin tone, age, or gender and does not require attachments such as finger clips or watches. Binah.ai’s technology will run through the MyHealthLab app.

“We are thrilled to be part of this important study,” said David Maman, co-founder, CEO, and CTO of Binah.ai. “High-stress levels are an everyday challenge of life, and the current pandemic has only exacerbated the issue. We are looking forward to the results of the study and feel honored to support it with our technology. This study is another perfect example of our vision coming to fruition, enabling access to basic healthcare services for all aspects of life.”

NFLA Chief Executive and former NFL star Beasley Reece added: “We are proud to partner with both Fulcrum Performance Lab and Binah.ai on this study and applaud any of our members who elect to enroll. Allowing for a better understanding around mental stress and how it correlates with long-term health concerns directly aligns with our mission of putting the health and wellness of our members first, long after their playing years.”

Phase 1 of the study will open for enrollment starting Oct. 1. All NFLA members across the country are welcome to participate. The study is planned to close in late November. Data collected will be used to begin a Phase 2 study that will include a larger number of participants. The study is sponsored by financial advisory firm Embassy Capital Group.
