Merengue and bachata star Alex Bueno headlined a talented list of musical acts that filled Saturday afternoon with the joyous sounds of family and community along the bay.
“This is exciting because of the year off due to COVID, people have been anxious to get out,” said Bert Lopez, president and founder of the Hispanic Association of Atlantic County, the organization that put on the event.
“Fortunately we have a nice outdoor venue and a good location to have an event like this. I know the community was looking forward to having it. The weather is perfect.”
President of Deal With It Management Dr. Pedro Santana said it is motivating to the local Hispanic community — and Atlantic County at large — to see the festival return with so much enthusiasm.
“It’s been a blessing to be involved with the rebirth of the Hispanic Association here in Atlantic County and bring back the festival,” Santana said. “We took a little break because of the pandemic and focusing on other things.
A former administrator at Stockton University, Santana said the local college was “well represented” Saturday, a signal of how young people and those in education have shown interest in the festival and the Latino community.
“As past president of Stockton Unidos and a founding member of the organization, it is vital the communities continue to advance and to get services and support, and to let their voices be heard.”
The festival attracted significant sponsors this year, including the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, the City of Atlantic City, Organization Azteca, the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs and the Atlantic City Initiatives Office.
