MILLVILLE — LeQuint Allen, Millville’s top scoring threat at running back and linebacker on defense, was name the Gatorade New Jersey Player of the Year in football this week.
The announcement came after Allen led the Millville Thunderbolts to the South Jersey Group 4 state title in a 45-35 victory over Winslow Township at Rutgers University. Allen will go on to play football at Syracuse University next fall.
Allen rushed for 1,904 yards this season and 22 rushing touchdown on offense and made more than 100 tackles on defense with five interceptions. That was enough to lead Millville to a 12-1 season.

“He’s a great football player, honor student and an even better person,” Millville coach Dennis Thomas told Front Runner New Jersey.com about his star two-way player. “His leadership meant the world to us. First, he led by example but he was also a vocal leader. He helps guys on and off the field and instruct them to do the right things.”
Allen was selected as an All-State, All-South Jersey and All-Conference star this season.
“LeQuint Allen is the real deal,” Shawnee coach Tim Gushue said of Allen in a statement from Gatorade. “He can run you over, he can run away from you, he’s just a difference-maker. He’s a really good defensive player too. His physicality is unparalleled. There are some great players in New Jersey, but he’s the best I’ve seen.”
Allen has maintained a 3.26 GPA in the classroom. He has volunteered locally on behalf of the Millville Midget Football League.
