Atlantic City Hosts Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony

ATLANTIC CITY — The City of Atlantic City ushered in the Juneteenth 2022 weekend with a Juneteenth flag raising at City Hall on Thursday (June 16).
The event marks a full weekend of activities, to the Black Excellence Festival and Ubuntu Celebration on Sunday in Atlantic City to events all across South Jersey.

Mayor Marty Small, Sr. gave the welcome at the event, where councilman and Atlantic City NAACP President Kaleem Shabazz acted as the master of ceremonies.

Anthony Swan, the city’s business administrator, was the keynote speaker. Marcus Witherspoon led the audience for a rendition of “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”


Others participating in the program included Sheila Harvey, a drum tribute by Steven Tolbert, dance by Teneva Hammond Middleton and statements by Dr. Ida Jones, Councilwoman LaToya Dunston and Councilwoman Stephanie Marshall.
Mimi Nambo, who heads up special events with the City of Atlantic City, was the driving force behind the event, along with Chief of Staff Ernest Coursey and Kursten Watson.
