PENNS GROVE — The Puerto Rican Action Committee of Southern New Jersey named Joceline Ortiz as the inaugural director of the Hispanic Women’s Resource Center after the organization was awarded funds to open it.

PRAC Board President Jose Sanchez Sr. and CEO Ralph Padilla made the announcement on Facebook earlier this month. They said the resource centers will operate in Salem, Cumberland, Atlantic and Cape May counties.

“The Hispanic Women’s Resource Center will be a game changer for Latinas in Southern New Jersey, Padilla said in a statement from PRAC.

The centers focus is helping Latinas gain workforce development skills including, but not limited to, English language classes, job readiness preparation and training which includes resume preparation, interviewing skills, and computer training.

Ortiz had served as PRAC’s outreach coordinator for breast health awareness. She has her associate’s degree in Social Services from Cumberland County College, now Rowan College of South Jersey. She started working for PRAC as a staffer in 2014 where she first worked part-time as a caseworker for their multi-service department.

She later took a full-time position working for the Senior Connect program. As an outreach coordinator, Ortiz responsibilities included developing, organizing and producing breast cancer health educational materials needed for community presentations, classes, and activities.

In her free time, Ortiz had empowered and taught others at Praise in Action ministries, a school for the worship arts that she co-founded.

“We are proud to announce that Joceline Ortiz has been named Director of the PRAC HWRC,” Padilla said. “Joceline brings years of social service experience with a concentration on Latina Empowerment initiatives.”
