WHITESBORO — Civil Rights attorney Tim Alexander who is running a second time for Congress against U.S. Rep. Jeff Van Drew, and Atlantic City activist Steven Young will speak at a Black History Month event in historic Whitesboro on Sunday, Feb. 18.

The Janet’s Society of Love Black History Month program will take place at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center, 207 Main Street, from 1-4 p.m.

Alexander, who was the Democratic nominee against Van Drew in 2020, will be seeking the Democratic nomination again in hopes of becoming the first Black person to serve the district in Congress. Alexander, who officially announced his candidacy last year, has been locally laying the groundwork over the past two years for his second shot at the Republican and former Democrat Van Drew.

Young is a long-time civil rights activist in Atlantic City and president of the South Jersey chapter of the Rev. Al Sharpton National Action Network.

The third speaker will be North Jersey’s Lawrence Hamm, who is running for the U.S. Senate seat of Bob Menendez.
