EGG HARBOR CITYChef Andre Murphy and his Racing to Feed Series reached another milestone last week when his organization held its 200th Healing for the Soul Feeding event at the Atlantic County Council Education Center, last Saturday, March 30.

Racing to Feed served more than 300 free meals with the help of its sponsor Jersey Shore Credit Union. Murphy had said that the COVID-19 pandemic opened his eyes to how many people go hungry in Atlantic County and around the region and how that hunger continued after the pandemic.

Since 2022, Murphy and his Healing For the Soul Feeding Series has served more than 25,000 to people in need — all free of charge.

“Over the years, we’ve grown from a fundraiser to a food distributor, to our own food brand and onto a food truck,” Murphy said in a recent press statement. We’ve fed over 4,000 first responders, approximately 3,000 students, 10,000 seniors, 5,000 low-income families and 6,000 homeless.

He said some of the other milestone moments included celebrating their 10,000th meal served with the senior community at Rittenberg Manor in Egg Harbor City in 2022; receiving a call from emergency management and within 48 hours planning an exclusive feeding event and providing meals for five days for 16 displaced victims from a fire in Galloway.

He said on Sept. 30, Murphy’s signature food dish “Murphy’s Chicken N Potatoes” received it’s FDA-approved seal.

“Our feeding efforts have attracted over 60 sponsors, including some of the top banks and hospitals in South Jersey and other companies such as AtlantiCare, South Jersey Family Medical Centers, Virtua Health, Hard Rock Casino, Parke Bank, Fulton Bank, Ocean First, Kramer Beverage, ACUA and the ACCEA just to name a few,” Murphy said.

The NBA’s Charlotte Hornets became the first professional sports team to sponsor one of their events.
