Teresa Martinez: Patricia Campos-Medina Should Replace Sen. Bob Menendez

There was a time Blacks and Latinos waited for powerful White men to make a small space at their table of politics and power.
Those days are returning with [Gov. Phil Murphy’s] good ole boys. Prior to the governor vacationing at his 23-room Italian villa with stables, pools, tennis courts and other amenities, word spread that no Latino or Black need apply for any interim Senate position.
He already had his good ole boy caretaker. But leave it to the people of New Jersey and community leaders to call upon Murphy to respect elections, democracy and voters by appointing Dr. Patricia Campos-Medina as interim Senator. With impeccable qualifications, she placed second in the June primary elections.
““If we are going to live our talk about being a microcosm of our state, it is incumbent upon the Governor to look upon a well-qualified Latina to serve in the role [as interim Senator] and appoint Patricia Campos,” state Sen. Troy Singleton (D) District 7 – Burlington.
Gov. Murphy appears to want a mini-Menendez in the interim Senate seat. Just like Sen. [Bob] Menendez, his good ole former Chief of Staff also attempted to interfere in a criminal case. At Menendez’s trial former state Attorney General Gurbir Grewal testified that Murphy’s boy was so blatant in attempts to interfere in a criminal case, that he reminded the Governor such actions are illegal. Menendez was convicted; good ole boy not yet.
But more important is the future of the country. The interim Senator has the rare opportunity to inspire neighboring Pennsylvania to flip the presidency to Vice President Kamala Harris. There is no better surrogate speaker than Dr. Campos-Medina with her infectious high energy and similar immigrant story of a family who believe in the American dream.
The country especially needs Patricia to ignite the non-voters to register and stand in those long lines in minority precincts.
Not only can she do this perfectly, she can do it in multiple languages. Latinos must come out in droves for VP Harris to win. No good ole boy can motivate the minority community like Patricia can.
